TAYLORSVILLE, Utah -- A man was taken to a hospital in critical condition after a crash involving a motorcycle and car in Taylorsville Saturday afternoon.

Lt. Justin Hoyal of the Unified Police Department said the individual on the motorcycle was transported to a hospital in critical condition after the crash, which occurred in the area of 1545 West 4500 South.

Police said a car was turning out onto 4500 South and that the driver didn't see the motorcycle. The man operating the bike tried to stop but could not, and after the impact he was thrown over the handlebars and landed on his head.

The 35-year-old man suffered fractures to his head, and officials said if he had been wearing a helmet his injuries may have been less severe.
