(CNN) — Police in Cambridge, Massachusetts, have made an arrest in connection with a pair of gruesome discoveries.

The suspect, who will not be identified until a Monday arraignment, is being charged in connection with the discovery of human remains in a duffel bag and in a common area at an apartment building — just steps from police headquarters.

Police were notified Saturday morning about a suspicious item along a walkway in Cambridge. Officers arrived at the scene, opened a duffel bag and found human remains.

After that discovery, police say, a surveillance video led them to an apartment building, where more body parts were discovered in a common area. That location is near the Cambridge Police Department headquarters.

Authorities have not said whether the body parts belong to the same person, but Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said investigators “believe it to be one person.” The remains have been identified, but the victim’s name has not been released pending family notification.

The suspect is facing charges of accessory after the fact to assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and improper disposal of a body.

The investigation is active, but Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas said, “We’re confident that this was not a random act and there is no threat to the public’s safety as a suspect has been taken into custody.”

CNN’s Joe Sutton contributed to this report.
