SANDY, Utah – There was some last-minute drama at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy Sunday after Real Salt Lake led for 50 minutes only to have Toronto FC tie the match in the 88th minute—but just one minute later Jordan Allen’s first career MLS goal meant the first win of the season for the home team.

RSL came into Sunday’s contest with two ties under their belt (0-0 at Portland on March 7 and 3-3 vs Philadelphia on March 14), and they took the lead in the 38th minute courtesy of midfielder Luke Mulholland.

Toronto FC, 1-1 prior to Sunday’s game, managed to spark some hope of a comeback late in the second half, as midfielder Jackson got one past Jeff Attinella in the 88th minute. Attinella was in for starter Nick Rimando, who was away with the US National Team.

But the Reds’ momentum ended less than a minute later when Real Salt Lake’s Javier Morales crossed the ball to Jordan Allen, who hammered home a header to make it 2-1—a score that would stand through the final minute as well as the four minutes of extra time.

Real Salt Lake remains undefeated at 1-0-2 and is ranked fifth in the Western Conference with 5 points. They play next on April 5, when they will travel to Avaya Stadium in San Jose to face the Earthquakes, who are 2-2 and ranked 3 in the Western Conference with 6 points. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
