SANDY, Utah — The Utah Adoption Council’s annual conference is happening Wednesday and Thursday in Sandy, and the council’s goal is to provide information and promote healthy adoptions.

This year’s conference focuses on families who’ve adopted through the foster system, and some of the topics covered involve childhood trauma, open adoptions, birth family reunions, and post placement issues.

Nicole Squires, President Utah Adoption Council, said there is more to adoption than many people realize.

‘A lot of people who think of adoption, think only as an infant,” she said. “A lot of the people that come to this conference are foster families, foster parents, and have adopted children who were raised by their birth families for a few months to a few years, and sometimes even into their teenage years.”

The conference will continue Thursday at the South Town Expo Center. For more information about the conference, visit the council’s website.
