Motorcycle, car collision in Sandy ends with 1 man dead

SANDY, Utah — A 53-year-old man is dead after a motorcycle accident in Sandy late Friday night.

At approximately 10:10 p.m., Rohn McNeely was traveling on a motorcycle with an adult female passenger on 9000 South at the intersection of 275 West in Sandy. According to Sandy police, McNeely was stopped at a red light with an SUV stopped behind.

Police say McNeely proceeded through the intersection on the red light after the left turn arrow for eastbound traffic went green. The SUV followed.

McNeely was hit by a westbound truck was turning left to enter Interstate 15. McNeely and his passenger were thrown on impact.

McNeely was then run over by the SUV that had been traveling behind them. He died on scene.

There are no indications alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.

9000 South was closed in both directions for several hours after the accident.

The crash is currently under investigation.
