SANDY, Utah — A former Washington County Sheriff’s lieutenant was suspended from law enforcement Monday by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council after being charged with DUI last year.

Jake Adams pleaded guilty to charges of driving under the influence after crashing his unmarked department vehicle last year.

His four children were in the car during the accident. There were no serious injuries.

Adams said he was grateful no one was hurt and apologized for his actions.

“I`m so sorry that I made such a terrible decision but now I`m making a decision every day to be the kind of person, be an example for what to not be an example for what not to do,” Adams said.

The council suspended Adams for three years. He has already served time for the DUI charge.
