SALT LAKE CITY – The first Saturday in March has seen the arrival of a very unusual pub crawl for the last several years, and the costumed participants are an annual sight despite there being a new name for the event.

Formerly known as the Salt Lake Urban Iditatord Shopping Cart Race, the Salt Lake Urban Chariot Pub Crawl is in its eighth year.

This year, about 100 people joined in to create a stream of costume-wearing shopping cart charioteers that began rolling down streets at about 2 p.m. and is expected to keep on crawling until about 2 a.m.

Some chariot teams incorporate themes to support a cause, like pet adoptions, while others are just there for some fun in the sun between stints at the bar.

“We’re just getting out and enjoying each other's company and going from bar to bar and just having a good time, just enjoying Salt Lake City,” event organizer Josh Anderson said.

Event organizers provided the following list of planned stops:

2:00-3:05 pm - Head to Maxwell's ECE
3:20-4:00 pm - Legends Bar and Grill
4:15-5:30 pm - Green Pig Pub
5:45-6:40 pm - Poplar or Beerhive
6:50-7:40 pm - Tavernacle or back to Green Pig
