PROVO, Utah -- Provo Mayor John Curtis said his citizens have spoken, and he said he wants to do everything he can to bring Trader Joe's to his city.

Curtis said residents currently make the long trip to Salt Lake City to visit the popular store, and he said they'd like to change that.

"There's two things to having retail in your city: One is the revenue, and the other is the convenience, the quality of life," he said.

Provo has launched a campaign on Facebook aimed at bringing Trader Joe's to town, and the effort includes a cash prize of $500 for whomever posts the best video encouraging the store to open a location in Provo.

Curtis explained: "We said, 'Why not include the whole city and see if that makes a difference?'"

Officials with Trader Joe's tell FOX 13 News they currently have no plans to bring the store to Provo. Curtis said he can be very persistent, and he said the contest for videos will continue.

FOX 13 News' Todd Tanner spoke with Provo residents, many of whom said they'd be thrilled to see Trader Joe's in their neck of the woods. See the video above for Tanner's report.
