SALT LAKE CITY - Authorities are investigating after a speeding car ran into several things, on and off the road.

Police said the incident started at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when a Mercedes Benz sped past a Highway Patrol Officer on State St.

Officials said the Mercedes hit the back end of Prius, breaking the car's rear axle.

The Mercedes finally stopped when it drove into a tree and then a light pole on Grand America property.

Officers said the driver smelled of alcohol and appeared intoxicated.

The suspect was treated for minor injuries and may face reckless driving and DUI charges.

An example of what happens when you drink. Boozehounds (alcoholics) need to be put into a kennel (jail) and forced to sober up. Each alcohol related offense, no matter what it is, needs to carry an automatic 6-mo mininum in jail.
