PROVO, Utah -- One of the biggest and fastest growing companies in the state is about to move. For 30 years, Ancestry.com has been based out of Provo, but this week the world’s largest online family history resource announced they will be moving into a brand new headquarters in Lehi.

The company has 1,000 employees based in Utah, the majority of which can be found in their Provo offices. They are constantly updating their website, having scanned over 15 billion historic records, which are being used by more than 2 million subscribers.

Now, the whole operation is moving to Traverse Mountain.

"This move is all about the ability to build great space for our people, and that’s the people we have now and the people we are going to hire into the future," said Zach Pino, Vice President of People and Places for Ancestry.com.

Making $561 million in 2013, Ancestry.com is the second-ranked company in Utah Valley in total revenue, according to Utah Valley 360. It's also the 15th fastest-growing company in the state, according to the publication Utah Business. They currently have 50 high-level job openings.

"It felt like a great opportunity to keep our current people happy, not disrupt what they do too much, but position us to bring in great people from the northern part of Salt Lake and Utah County who may have not considered Ancestry as a destination before," Pino said.

The city of Lehi was one of many options Ancestry.com had for relocation. The city said they have something the competition does not, and that's the emergence of a number of new tech companies, coined by the governor as “Silicon Slopes.”

"It's hard to beat us, just half way in-between Salt Lake City and Provo, right on I-15, construction space, so we really kind of have the perfect package to offer these companies, " said Robert Ranc, Assistant to the City Administrator of Lehi

Ground was broken on the new $35 million headquarters this month. It will be 135,000 square feet, with the ability to expand to 200,000 square feet.

"We're going to see more residential development and retail follows residential, so it's really a great virtuous cycle that's been generated," Ranc said.

Ancestry.com is scheduled to open their new headquarters in mid-2016.
