DUCHESNE COUNTY, Utah – A man arrested for suspicion of DUI early Sunday morning escaped custody while handcuffed and restrained by a belly chain, and he managed to evade custody for almost 9 hours before he was found hiding in a barn north of Neola.

According to a press release from the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Lance Sizemore around 1 a.m. Sunday for suspicion of DUI on SR-121 near mile post 9.

As police were making an inventory of the vehicle, Sizemore, “who was handcuffed and restrained with a belly chain,” escaped and fled in an unknown direction. At about 7 a.m., Sheriff Dave Boren requested help from the Utah Highway Patrol in finding the man.

At about 9 a.m. , a citizen approached a UHP corporal helping in the search and said a neighbor had Sizemore in his barn, which is about three-quarters of a mile north of Neola. According to the press release, police went to the barn, where Sizemore was identified and then arrested without incident. He was found to be in possession of a knife, which he allegedly took from a local barn.

Sizemore was taken into custody at about 9:40 a.m., and police took him to a medical facility to conduct a legal blood draw. He was later booked into the Duchesne County Jail.
