(CNN) -- The video above shows how the planned “soft landing” of a SpaceX rocket didn’t go as planned.

The section of the SpaceX rocket was returning to a platform in the Atlantic Ocean last Saturday when things ended in an explosion.

SpaceX is hoping they can control the landing of this piece so that it could be reused in later missions. Doing so would make space exploration a lot cheaper.

SpaceX officials said they weren’t too upset, as they knew the landing had a 50-50 chance of being a success.

SpaceX tweeted about the incident and founder Elon Musk retweeted their response: "close but no cigar this time."

The section of the rocket that was sent to space docked with the International Space Station for a supply mission.
