SCHILLER PARK, Illinois - An Illinois mother is in custody after authorities said she tried to kill her two children by making them drink poisoned apple juice.

According to WGN, prosecutors said she also tried to kill herself with anti-anxiety medication.

Officials said 29-year-old Krystle El Khatib told police she wanted all three of them to go to sleep and not wake up.

Prosecutors said she did this because she was angry with the children's father.

Authorities said El Khatib crushed up anti-anxiety medication into some juice and forced her 9-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter to drink it.

WGN reported the boy got up the next morning and couldn't wake his mother so he texted his father.

Both children were treated for poisoning at the hospital after the boy started vomiting.

The children are out of the hospital and now with their father.

El Khatib is facing attempted murder charges; her bail was set at $1.5 million.
