PROVO, Utah – A man faces five counts of burglary after police officers searching the area for a suspect in a burglary stopped the man and noticed he had broken glass on his back and boots.

According to information from the Provo Police Department, officers were called at about 2:50 a.m. Wednesday after a witness saw someone smash the glass door of La Dolce Vita, a restaurant located at 61 North 100 East, and enter the business.

The witness told police the suspect was dressed in all black, including a hoodie, and was also wearing a white mask. The suspect fled prior to police arriving at the scene.

Officers searched the area, and about 15 minutes after arriving they located a male dressed all in black and wearing a hoodie with a white bandana. The man was at 3000 South and 100 West.

As the officer stopped and began talking to the man, the officer noticed the suspect had glass shards on his back and on his boots. Police then arrested the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Thomas Laird of Provo, in order to conduct an investigation. Police stated they later determined Laird had allegedly been involved in five burglaries since December 20.

Detectives recovered stolen property that included cash, eight game consoles, two laptops and two tablets. Police said that all of the property they recovered has been returned to the rightful owners.

Laird was booked into the Utah County Jail and faces five counts of burglary and one count of possession of burglary tools.
