Man dies after being hit by two cars while crossing State Street

SOUTH SALT LAKE – A man suffered fatal injuries in an auto-pedestrian accident that occurred in South Salt Lake Saturday evening, and police said both drivers of the cars that struck the man are cooperating and did not appear to be impaired.

According to a press release from South Salt Lake Police, a man in his 50s, identified only as a local resident, was struck while crossing State Street in the area of 3600 South.

Police stated the man was attempting to cross eastbound from the west side of State Street and was struck by more than one vehicle. He was walking about 30 yards south of a marked pedestrian crosswalk.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police stated: “The two drivers involved in the incident are being cooperative and there are no immediate signs of impairment.”

Police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing. The man’s name has not been released, pending notification to his immediate family.
