PLEASANT GROVE, Utah -- A Pleasant Grove family is asking the public's help in finding their dog, and the animal is not only their pet, but it also helps their 15-year-old son, who has autism.

Annette West said she was raking her yard on the morning of November 25, and the family's dog, Emme, was outside with her.

West said she noticed the black lab was missing after a while, but she said she thought the animal had just gone inside.

After a couple of hours, West still couldn't find Emme in her home, in the yard or in the neighborhood. She contacted animal control and the shelter, but didn’t find anything.

West said the dog has been a great comfort to her 15-year-old son Brendan, who has autism.

“She has been the best thing for him,” she said. “He has been able to overcome his fears and most of his anxiety, and he’s just doing awesome."

West said Emme is a black lab, who weighs about 85 pounds, has brown eyes, and was wearing a silver chain around her neck with no tags.

Anyone who sees the dog is encouraged to contact animal control officers or police. The dog is pictured in the video above.
