SALT LAKE CITY – The roof of an abandoned downtown building collapsed under the weight of rain and snow that fell over the last few days.

Crews say there was so much water on the roof, located near 260 South Main Street, that when it gave way, water, glass and parts of the building were flooded into the alley and onto 300 South.

“Witnesses say it pushed across the alley and onto the wall of the building across the way here. So it had to have been a fair amount of water this morning,” said Salt Lake City Fire Battalion Chief Karl Steadman.

Crews say no one was in the building at the time, but TRAX was shut down while crews cleaned the area.
