SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert has named his nominee to the Utah Supreme Court.

If confirmed by the Utah Senate, Judge Constandinos G. Himonas would replace Utah Supreme Court Justice Ronald E. Nehring, who is set to retire February 1.

Herbert said it’s an honor to nominate Judge Himonas, and he said the selection process is a serious responsibility.

“I believe he is a man not only of integrity but a man of hard work,” He said of Himonas. “It is hard work to be on the Supreme Court. The workload is exceptional, and I know he’s going to give it 100 percent in his efforts to make sure the people of Utah are well served.”

Himonas, who was raised in Price, currently serves as a trial judge in the Third District Court, which is a position he was appointed to in 2004.

“For the past ten years, I have had the privilege of working for the people of this state as a district court judge,” Himonas stated in a press release. “In that capacity, something I have always tried to remember is that the cases we hear as judges represent either the most important thing going on in the lives of the people in front of us, or one of the most important things. Consequently, I have endeavored to give those cases the full measure of my abilities. And, if confirmed, I commit to this degree of dedication–certainly one the people deserve.”

Himonas’ appointment is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
