HERRIMAN, Utah – A missing child was found stuck in an open manhole  Friday night, and police said a K9 is responsible for finding the 6-year-old boy.

According to information from the Unified Police Department, the child was located in the area of 12600 South and 4500 West.

Lt. Justin Hoyal of the Unified Police Department said they were contacted about the missing child around 5:30 p.m., and he said during the search someone located the child’s bike near a trail head at a park.

The 6-year-old child, later identified as Kollin Bailey, was found by a police K9 shortly after the bike was found. Police announced they had found the child at about 7:18 p.m.

“The dog went right to a manhole that was open and uncovered and found the child about 9 to 10 feet down inside that manhole,” Hoyal said.

An officer was able to jump down and retrieve the child.

The boy’s family said the child was taken to a hospital to be treated for a broken arm.
