LOGAN, Utah – Police said an elderly woman who was found dead outside of a retirement home Tuesday morning died due to hypothermia.

Chief Kim Hawks of the North Park Police Department said Patricia Hugie, 91, was found outside of the Pioneer Valley Lodge, a retirement home where she lived.

The woman had last been seen Monday night around 7 p.m. when she received her medication, and she was found the next morning by a maintenance worker.

When Hugie was located her right hip was broken. Police officials in Logan said the cause of death was hypothermia.

Hawks said the location is a retirement home where residents can come and go freely, and it wasn’t clear when Hugie left that night. The woman is a long-time resident of Cache Valley.
