SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah hospital has opened a new patient and family housing hotel.

University of Utah Health Care's patient and family housing gives long-term patients a place to stay between follow-up visits at the hospital so they can feel more at home during the difficult recovery period.

"It's been a great option for us. They have great logistics as far as transportation to and from," said Rod and Lukasik. "It's just been our home away from home for the last couple of weeks."

University Hospital serves patients from a five-state area, and the hotel allows patients from far away a chance to stay comfortably and be close to the hospital.

"We treat patients that do have to fly here. We have also patients we want to be able to create a convenient way for them. We have a shuttle here but also provides another alternative for them and so it just became a great location for us," said David Entwistle, CEO for University Hospitals and Clinics.

The new hotel has about 45 units right n ow, and there's still room for expansion so they'll be able to house patients long into the future.
