ATLANTA -- Chemical engineering students at the University of Utah recently took first place in a unique competition, where participants were tasked with creating a car that runs on alternative fuels.

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers held the “Chem-E-Car” competition in Atlanta, and teams from 38 different Universities built models of cars that showed off their scientific skills as they related to alternative fuel sources.

The winning team from the U of U said the contest is not about speed, but rather about accuracy. Their winning vehicle, named Utes, ran on hydrogen.

The task required the vehicle to carry 244 milliliters of water for 84 feet. FOX 13 News’ Bob Evans spoke with some of those involved with the U of U’s team, see the video above for their comments.
