SOUTH JORDAN, Utah -- Three armed business robberies within an hour of each other in South Jordan and Draper are believed to be connected, according to South Jordan Police Sunday morning.

At approximately 6:30 a.m., South Jordan police responded to Denny’s at 10646 S. Frontage Road.

Police say a white male in his late teens or early 20s entered the restaurant and demanded money from the clerk. He allegedly displayed a handgun and had “something strapped to his chest.”

Police say the suspect left the restaurant with an undisclosed amount of money and fled on foot to a vehicle waiting for him. The car, described as a four-door Ford Focus, entered Interstate 15 going south.

The suspect was described as 6 feet tall, tall with medium build, wearing a dark jacket and white mask or scarf covering his face.

Two similar robberies were reported in Draper with similar suspect description.

The first robbery occurred at a 7-Eleven, 12300 S. 692 East. Police were called to the scene at about 7 a.m.

Sgt. Street with Draper police said the suspect walked into the convenience store, demanded money and brandished a handgun.

Police say the clerk argued with the suspect resulting in the man getting away with nothing. But, police say, the suspect left a package on the counter claiming it was a bomb.

Unified Fire Authority bomb squad was called to the 7-Eleven to dispose of the alleged bomb.

Police say the package turned out not be an explosive device.

The third robbery took place at Pro Stop, 13893 S. Bangerter Highway. Police say the suspect robbed the clerk at gunpoint getting away with an undisclosed amount of money. Officers were called to the scene at 7:28 a.m.

Street said the suspect description in the South Jordan robbery is similar to the Draper robberies. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage the different locations.

The suspect was described as a white male. The man was reported to be 6 feet tall wearing a beanie hat, sunglasses, face mask, a black trench coat and grey hooded sweatshirt.
