Which stores will be open/closed on Thanksgiving Day in Utah

Many of the country’s largest retailers aren’t waiting for Thanksgiving to be over, or even for it to be Friday, to launch their Black Friday deals.

KMart is first with the door buster deals, opening at 6 a.m., so goodness knows when the line begins forming.

A handful of others will open Thursday evening.

But some big names are closing up shop on Thursday, like Costco, which said its employees “deserve” the day off.

Giving employees a break, as well as a principled stance about the sanctity of Thanksgiving, are the primary arguments in favor of being closed.

Nobody likes being left behind, so there will probably be more announcements in the coming weeks.

Who’s closed on Thanksgiving Thursday:

Burlington Coat Factory

Costco

Who’s open on turkey day:

6 a.m. – KMart (a 23-year tradition)

5 p.m. – J.C. Penney (an hour earlier than last year)

6 p.m. – Kohl’s

6 p.m. – Sears

6 p.m. – Macy’s

More stores will be added to the lists as they are confirmed.

  • Really?

Meanwhile, police, fire, ems, hospitals, TV stations, etc will be open without anyone causing a fuss… I will be patronizing these open places at it is just another day on the calendar. Spend every day with family, not just a few a year…

You’d have to be dumber than a box of rocks not to realize the need for essential services that are there 24/7 to save lives and a food store where you can buy a loaf of bread.
