SALT LAKE CITY – Police have taken a man into custody after he allegedly attempted two robberies, both of which were not successful.

Police said witnesses observed 26-year-old Ronald Kyle Oram entering the Peery Hotel on 110 West and 300 South and then passing the person at the front desk a note demanding cash.

The employee refused to comply, and Oram became nervous and fled. A staff member who saw Oram leaving said the man used to work at the hotel.

About an hour later, police said Oram tried to rob a Toasters restaurant located at 151 West 200 South, also by passing an employee a note demanding money. Det. Dennis McGowan of the Salt Lake City Police Department said the second attempt unfolded much like the first.

‘…there was a small group of people that entered the restaurant at the same time that this was happening, so, once again, the robber got scared because of the group of people, and he just turned around and left,” he said.

Witnesses at both locations gave descriptions of Oram, and police located the man and arrested him.

Oram has been booked into jail on two counts of robbery. Police said the man was not armed during the attempted robberies.
