PROVO, Utah – An unbelievable last-second play during a Utah high school football game dashed one team’s hopes to go to the state tournament and fulfilled another team’s dreams.

Spanish Fork High School had a 14-11 lead over Maple Mountain High School with just 3.7 seconds left on the clock.

According to BleacherReport.com, Spanish Fork was faced with a fourth down and instead of punting, they opted to run down the clock.

It didn’t work out the way they planned.

In the video, the quarterback ran until the clock ran out and dropped the ball.

The issue is, football plays don’t stop when the clock hits zero, BleacherReport.com said.

Officials have to rule the ball dead.

Maple Mountain was able to recover the fumble and score a game-winning touchdown, launching them into the state tournament.
