DRAPER, Utah – A homeowner in Draper said he has security footage that shows a man who walked around his home before burglarizing a vehicle in broad daylight.

The suspect was dressed as a construction worker, but the homeowner, Jeffrey Luck, believes that was a disguise.

The victim in this case was extremely surprised by how brazen the burglar was but he was even more shocked from the response he got once he put the video online, and he now hopes it helps police catch the suspect.

Luck and his family have lived in the Draper area for nearly a decade, and they said it’s generally a quiet neighborhood.

“This is the first time we've experienced anything like this,” he said.

Tuesday around 9:30 a.m., while his family was inside their home, a man wearing an orange construction vest drove his pick up truck into the Luck family’s driveway. He then spent several minutes checking the outside of the home before making his move.

“He was on site for four and a half minutes, and in and out of his vehicle in the middle of the day and in the video you see it--multiple cars going past, you know, it wasn't like the dark of night where someone's being sneaky,” Luck said.

The video shows the suspect wielding what appears to be a hammer as he smashes a car window to grab a purse from inside.

Luck said he has watched the video several times and still can barely believe his eyes. He said there are several security cameras visible on the outside of his home, and at one point the suspect looks directly into the lens of one of them.

But Luck said he was then pleasantly surprised by the responses he received after posting the video on Facebook.

"A lot of feedback, all of a sudden you get; 'Oh hey, we saw something that fits the description,’” he said.

He said he hopes the images of the suspect, who appears to be white and in his 30s, along with the description of his black, two-door Chevy pick-up truck, will help police identify and capture the suspect.

Luck said responses to his Facebook post lead him to believe the suspect may be a serial burglar, as other people in the Draper area responded with reports of similar crimes.

Anyone who sees the suspect or who has knowledge about the alleged crime is asked to contact Draper police at 801-840-4000.
