CARBON COUNTY, Utah -- Rain hit Carbon County again Sunday night, causing more flooding and prolonging cleanup efforts.

The county declared a state of emergency over the weekend.

Hundreds of volunteers and county workers spent the weekend shoveling mud and pumping water out of basements.

Carbon County officials estimate the flooding damaged at least 24 homes along the Price river, spanning from Carbonville to Wellington.
Most of the families say they don't have insurance and lost irreplaceable items like photo albums, pianos and mementos.

"That was the hardest part," said Amanda Vierra about losing precious items. "Those of us who grew up in this basement and this home, had to choke back our emotion as we hauled everything out. Otherwise it was just too overwhelming to think about."

Homeowners expect the cleanup to take several weeks.
