SALT LAKE CITY -- Cancer survivors and their families put on their walking shoes and took to the pavement for the CureSearch Cancer Walk at Sugar House Park Saturday.

The event was meant to inspire kids going through treatment and raise money for pediatric cancer research.

“It breaks my heart, cancer is such a devastating disease, especially to go through treatment,” said Adam Burdett. “It's a miracle what we have, but I think we can do a whole lot better.”

Megan Gibson’s 5-year-old son is fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia, meaning at least nine months of chemo and years of therapy ahead.

“My son has the good cancer -- as if there is a thing,” Gibson said “We are thankful for that, but we still need a cure.”

The march is meant to show people how childhood cancer touches many families, and many young people spanning from infancy to early adulthood. The goal of the walk was to raise $160,000 for projects at Primary Children’s Hospital and the Huntsman Cancer Institute. To learn more or to donate, click here.
