WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mont. – A man reported to be from Park City, Utah was killed in a single-vehicle accident that occurred in Montana Saturday afternoon in the area near West Yellowstone.

Trooper Brandon Valesques of the Montana Highway Patrol said the man, identified as 20-year-old Joseph J. Morelli, was driving southbound on U.S. Highway 287 when he lost control of the vehicle around 2 p.m.

Valesques said Morelli lost control as the road turned right, and the vehicle went across the highway and off to the left side of the road, where it hit an embankment and rolled. Morelli was not wearing a seat belt and suffered fatal injuries. A 19-year-old passenger was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries.

Valesques said it is believed alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Both individuals in the car are students at Montana State University. The identity of the victim who suffered injuries has not been released.

The Billings Gazette reports Morelli is from Park City.
