SALT LAKE COUNTY — Police received several complaints of fraudulent phone calls from an individual claiming to work for the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office or the Unified Police Department.

According to a police report, the suspicious caller informed victims that there was a warrant for their arrest because they had failed to show up for jury duty, and told them to send money in an envelope to a specified address.

Both the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Unified Police Department want the public to be aware of this scam, and are advising people that police departments never accept money from individuals for outstanding warrants.

Authorities are telling anyone who receives a questionable call from someone claiming to represent a Salt Lake County police department to notify the Salt Lake County Sheriff dispatch at (801) 743-7000.
