CLINTON, Utah – Officials are warning Clinton residents to take precautionary measures with the water.

Officials said water samples taken Aug. 6 tested positive for E-coli and a water advisory is in place.

According to city officials, the advisory does not mean the water is contaminated, only that the water could be.

Health officials said customers “should assume the water is unsafe to drink and take the appropriate precautions.”

Authorities recommend using bottled water and throwing out ice made with tap water.

According to the water advisory, crews have discovered a suspected point of contamination.

Clinton officials said a resident had cross-connected the secondary water system (irrigation) with the drinking water system.

It has since been disconnected and procedures to disinfect the system are already underway.

Authorities said they don’t know if the water is safe and they won’t know until Thursday afternoon when the test results come back.
