SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City dedicated a new federal courthouse Wednesday, and the building's unusual design has drawn its share of detractors.

The new energy-efficient building uses about 34 percent less energy than other courthouses across the country, and it offers more security and technology as well as room to grow.

The $185 million project took three years to complete, and the design concept was 18 years in the making.

The large building features a unique design, and some people are not pleased with the way the building looks. However, others say the structure's shape and design provide many conveniences and plenty of light.

FOX 13 News' Ashton Goodell was at the courthouse Wednesday and spoke with officials and citizens about the building, see the video above for her report.
