ST. GEORGE, Utah — A man and woman are in critical condition after colliding head on with a semi truck Friday evening, officials said Saturday morning.

At approximately 8:03 p.m., Sherlene Olguez, 55, of Page Ariz., was traveling north on Interstate 15 with passenger Matthew Monroe, 30, through St. George.

According to Utah Highway Patrol, Olguez suffered some kind of medical issue causing her to cross into southbound lanes at mile marker 13.

After crossing into oncoming traffic, Olguez veered onto the onramp then back onto the freeway colliding with a semi truck head on, according to UHP.

The vehicle caught fire when it struck the semi, UHP officials state, but fire crews were able to extinguish the flames and get the occupants out of the car.

Olguez and Monroe were flown to a Las Vegas hospital in critical condition. The driver of the semi was uninjured.
