SALT LAKE CITY – The 18th annual Dash for Donation was held Saturday, and the event focuses on raising awareness about organ donation.

The event featured a 5K run and a 2K walk at Sugar House Park, and another such event was also held at Weber State University.

Many of those who participated are involved because they know someone in need of an organ or they know someone who has donated organs or tissues.

Jenny Koller participated in the event, and she said they were there in honor of their 6-year-old son who lost his life to an unknown heart disease.

"We were able to donate both his kidneys to some adults in California, his heart went to research to try to figure out what was wrong,” she said. “He had bones and tissues all over the state of Utah to do studies, a bone went to Shriners to try to help any type of research we can and helping families."

The event also sought to get more Utahns to become organ donors and to have that decision indicated on their driver’s license or other form of ID. The event is part of the group Yes Utah's efforts, click here to visit their website.
