AMERICAN FORK, Utah — A Democratic candidate for the Utah legislature was arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping.

American Fork Police arrested 43-year-old Mark Byrge Monday night on three counts of distribution of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person.

According to American Fork Police, two outstanding arrest warrants were also served regarding an alleged aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault and obstruction of justice incident that occurred at Byrge’s home in June.

The victim in the incident at Byrge’s home allegedly owed the Democratic candidate money, police say.

Byrge is a candidate for House District 56.
