TOOELE COUNTY, Utah – FEMA funds have been approved to help fight the Anaconda fire in Tooele County.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved a Federal Fire Management Assistance Grant after the state’s request Monday night.

That means FEMA funding will pay up to 75 percent of the state’s firefighting costs.

However, the grants do not financially help individual home or business owners.

The grants also do not cover infrastructure damage from the fire.

According to FEMA, Fire Management Assistance Grants are provided through the President’s Disaster Relief Fund and made available by FEMA to assist in fighting fires that threaten to cause a major disaster.

Eligible items can include expenses for field camps; equipment use, repair and replacement; mobilization and demobilization activities; and tools, materials and supplies.
