SALT LAKE CITY -- Polygamist leader Warren Jeffs is doing a lot of writing in prison, sending out "revelations" to the Utah State Legislature.

For the past few months, lawmakers' mailboxes have been filled with Jeffs' writings. Lawmakers say they sometimes get several letters at a time.

In the writings, Jeffs sounds off on current events and proclaims himself a mouthpiece of God.

"I read the first one that I got and it said I couldn't have sex with my wife until further notice," Sen. Todd Weiler, R-Woods Cross, told FOX 13. "I decided I wasn't an adherent of the Warren Jeffs clan."

Jeffs is serving a life, plus 20-year prison sentence in Texas for child sex assault, related to underage marriages. This isn't the first time he's sent mass mailings. A few years ago, the legislature also got blitzed with revelations about the end of the world.

"We get a lot of mail from the Fundamentalist (LDS) Church and, you know, I tried to read one or two and they don't make any sense," said Sen. Steve Urquhart, R-St. George. "So I just drop them straight in the trash now."

Some lawmakers absolutely refuse to accept the mail at all if it comes from Jeffs or the FLDS Church. Others tell FOX 13 they are glad to hear from constituents -- even if they are calling them into repentance.

"I choose rather than be offended, to feel pity for people that actually believe he's inspired of God," Weiler said.

FOX 13 tried to reach a representative of the FLDS Church attached with the mailings, but calls were not returned. Lawmakers said every year,  Jeffs sends them a book containing revelations. Because the book is valued at $25, it is returned to sender -- because it exceeds the $10 gift limit to the legislature.
