Subaru is recalling more than 660,000 vehicles for potential brake problems, but the recall does not cover vehicles sold or registered in Utah.

Officials said Subaru issued the recall because brake lines can rust and then leak fluid, meaning it will take longer for the cars to come to a stop.

According to the Associated Press, this is the second recall for the same issues in about half of these vehicles.

Cars affected:

  • Legacy 2005-2009
  • Outback 2005-2009
  • Impreza 2008 – 2014
  • Forester 2009 – 2013

According to the recall, locations seeing the worst issues are places where salt is used on the roads. Although salt is used on the roads in Utah, the recall only covers cars sold or registered in these states:

Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C.

According to the company, the salty water can splash onto the brake lines through a gap in the fuel tank protector making it rust.

If those lines leak fluid, it could take longer to stop your car which increases the risk of an accident.

Subaru said no crashes have been confirmed because of the issue, the company is taking precautionary measures.
