PROVO, Utah – A fifth grade teacher in the Alpine school district accused of possessing child pornography made his first appearance in court Monday.

The teacher, 54-year-old Ed Greene is facing 10 courts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Investigators said the educator uploaded multiple images of child porn involving pre-pubescent and teen boys.

He allegedly did this on his personal Google account and that set in motion a police investigation involving several agencies.

Google and other internet providers are cracking down on those who spread kiddie porn, so when Greene allegedly uploaded the illegal images in May, it triggered an alarm and those images were sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Washington, D.C.

They in turn notified Utah’s Internet Crimes Against Children task force that then called Utah County Sheriff’s detectives.

They learned the IP address belonged to Ed Greene who lives in Spanish Fork and was teaching 5th grade at Westfield Elementary in Alpine.

Greene was arrested, leaving school officials and Greene’s neighbors shocked and saddened.

“I seriously would not ever believe that,” neighbor Heather Randall said. “He is the nicest person ever and I would completely trust him.”

Greene is currently out on bail.

He is due back in court July 29.

If convicted, Greene could face several years in prison.
