TAYLORSVILLE, Utah – Police are investigating after a person was wounded in a shooting early Sunday morning, and police became aware of the incident after the victim went to a store to purchase bandages.

Police said the victim and his friends were at a Wal-Mart buying first aid supplies for a gunshot wound around 4:30 a.m., and employees at the store noticed and called police.

The victims fled the area after they realized police had been called, but police caught up with them in the area of 5700 South and 3500 West. Officials said the victim, a 20-year-old male, spoke with police and told them what happened, but police still aren’t sure where the shooting occurred.

“We’re still trying to find out exactly where this crime scene was, at this time we have not been able to locate a crime scene, and we’re looking for any information about who may be responsible for this shooting,” said Lt. Justin Hoyal of the Unified Police Department.

The victim told police he was leaving a party on West Jordan Canal Road in Taylorsville when he was approached by several men in a white car. The victim, who was on foot when the suspects approached, stated that one of the men in the car fired several rounds at him after a short conversation.

The victim was struck somewhere in his upper body, but police said they were not disclosing further details. He was taken to Jordan Valley Hospital in fair condition.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the suspects is asked to contact the Unified Police Department at 801-743-7400.
