ST. GEORGE, Utah – A man was killed and another was injured in an accident involving three motorcycles and two other vehicles in St. George Saturday.

Officials stated that the accident occurred just after 2 p.m. at the intersection of 2450 East and Riverside Drive.

According to a press release from the St. George Police Department, witnesses stated that a Ford Ranger was stopped in the center turn lane facing East on Riverside Drive while the driver waited to make a left turn on to 2450 East. Three motorcycles were approaching the intersection from the East along Riverside Drive as a Jeep SUV was approaching on 2450 east.

Witnesses stated the Jeep drifted into the center turn lane and was on a collision course with the Ford Ranger when it swerved into the oncoming travel lane. The Jeep struck the Ford lightly and veered into the path of the three motorcyclists.

The motorcycles were traveling in a staggered formation. One of the two in front was stuck by the Jeep, and that motorcycle slid into the second motorcycle. The third motorcycle was struck by the front of the Jeep, and the rider was ejected and struck the Jeep before hitting the pavement. This man suffered severe head trauma and passed away due to his injuries later Saturday night.

The other rider struck by the Jeep suffered injuries to his lower extremities and was taken into surgery. Officials stated his injuries did not appear life threatening. There were no other injuries reported in the press release.

The crash is under investigation.
