SALT LAKE CITY - Salt Lake police said they are on the verge of solving a recent string of armed robberies.

Detectives said it appears the same man is now the prime suspect in multiple crimes this spring at convenience stores, gas stations and small supermarkets.

This started a week ago when a suspect who allegedly robbed a Salt Lake Dollar Tree store in May went back to the same store last Wednesday and allegedly tried to rob it again.

But the second time the clerk recognized the suspect, called police and the suspect was arrested.

During the arrest he fought with officers who found he was armed with a stolen handgun.

Officers said they also found him with a mask, gloves and a plastic bag, possibly to carry the stolen cash.

Now 21-year-old Munetadhir Alaetiaj, of West Valley City, has been charged with several crimes including two Conoco robberies in Taylorsville last week.

He is facing charges for a smoke shop robbery in Millcreek about two weeks ago as well as robbery and drug charges out of West Valley City.

He is also being investigated for connections to other unsolved crimes.

The concerning thing for police is he was able to post his $100,000 bond last Friday and spent more than four days back out on the street before West Valley police were able to arrest him again Wednesday.

Authorities said if the allegations are proven true, the man committed many armed crimes and was becoming increasingly dangerous and desperate.
