Investigation underway after apparent drowning at Bear Lake

BEAR LAKE, Utah – An investigation is underway after an apparent drowning at Bear Lake.

State Park Rangers recovered the body of a Layton man from the lake Thursday night.

Justin Petersen, 37, was last seen on the docks of Bear Lake State Park Marina Wednesday around 9 p.m., according to a press release from Utah State Parks. Investigators said it appears the man fell from the dock.

Utah State Park Rangers, personnel from Rich County Sheriff’s Office, Rich County Search and Rescue and local community divers helped search for the man.

The body is being examined by the Utah State Medical Examiner to determine a cause of death, and officials with Utah State Parks are conducting an investigation.
