2 taken to a hospital after altercation escalates into a shooting

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Two men were taken to a hospital for treatment after a physical altercation, and one of the men shot the other man in the leg.

Police said two men, ages 29 and 30, were arguing and began physically fighting in an apartment near 4000 S. Redwood Road around 4:30 p.m.

One of the men shot the other man in the leg during the altercation, and police were called to the apartment. According to a press release from West Valley City Police Department officials, the suspect in the shooting had suffered physical injuries from the altercation with the victim of the shooting.

The suspect in the shooting was taken to a hospital for treatment for those injuries, and the man who was shot was taken to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his leg.

Police are investigating to determine what prompted the altercation and to see what, if any, kind of relationship existed between the two men.
