Suspect dies after SWAT enters building, shots fired

WEST HAVEN, Utah -- The Weber County Sheriff's Office said a man believed to be armed and dangerous barricaded himself in a storage shed at an auto body shop in West Haven, and the man died after shots were fired as SWAT members entered the building.

Police officials said in a press conference around 5 p.m. Wednesday that the suspect had been shot and killed. Officials said two members of the SWAT team fired their weapons after the suspect allegedly pointed a weapon at SWAT members when they entered the building.

Police identified the suspect as Kristopher Chase Simmons.

The Ogden Metro SWAT Team, officers from the Ogden Police Department, and deputies from the Weber County Sheriff's Office responded to an auto body shop near 1900 S 1100 W around noon Wednesday.

According to tweets from the Weber County Sheriff's Office, the suspect, a 35-year-old Ogden-area man, had felony warrants out for his arrest and was wanted by Ogden detectives. SWAT team negotiators were in contact with the suspect and were trying to talk him into surrendering.

Officials tweeted around 3:13 p.m. that negotiations had broken down and that SWAT members had entered the structure and shots were fired.

According to a tweet from the Weber County Sheriff's Office,  "The Officer Involved Shooting Protocol has been initiated. The Weber County Attorney's Office is in route to the scene."

Police said in the press conference that no one else was injured during the incident. A woman who was in the building with the man was not harmed, and police have not released her identity nor have they provided details regarding her role, if any, in the incident.
