SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake City library is expanding, and officials broke ground Thursday on a new branch.

The Marmalade Library will be two-stories stall and about 18,000 square feet when it is finished, and officials said it will include a dedicated children’s library, a teen area, a small café, public access computer stations and more.

Ralph Becker, mayor of Salt Lake City, was among those who attended the groundbreaking.  John Spears, executive director of the Salt Lake City Public Library, said they are excited to expand their offerings to the community.

“The city library is just really proud of the role we play in Salt Lake City, and doing this, bringing a branch to one more neighborhood in Salt Lake City, is just going to let us keep fulfilling our mission,” Spears said.

The Marmalade Library will be located at 500 North and 300 West, and the construction is predicted to be complete in the summer of 2015. Officials said once this location and the one in Glendale are complete, the city’s library system will have a total of eight branches.
