WOODS CROSS, Utah -- Firefighters from South Davis Metro Fire put out a small fire in the carport area of a Woods Cross home early Monday morning, and a woman was booked into the Davis County Jail in connection with the fire.

Firefighters were called to the home, near 1000 S 1100 W, around 2:45.

Crews quickly extinguished the fire before it could spread to other areas of the home.

According to a press release from South Davis Metro Fire, investigators determined the fire had been intentionally set.

Officers from the Woods Cross Police Department arrested 30-year-old Brittany Ann Sessions in connection with the fire.

"Basically, she admitted to the officer that she had started the fire," said Det. Chris Hoffman, Woods Cross Police Department.

Kendall Sessions, Brittany's sister, spoke to FOX 13 about the incident. Kendall said Brittany was drunk and upset before she decided to have a fire in the backyard.

"I tried to calm her down and then I said 'Let's go have a fire out back," Kendall Sessions said.

Kendall said Brittany then ignited a Christmas tree that was sitting under a carport.

"She didn't intentionally mean to start the house on fire, but she did set the tree on fire and I think that's why she got arrested is because she told the cops that she had started the fire," Kendall sessions said.

Brittany Sessions faces charges of aggravated arson, intoxication and criminal mischief.

Damage was estimated at $3,000.
