Student critically injured in stabbing at Duchesne High

DUCHESNE, Utah — A fight between two students at Duchesne High School ended in a stabbing on Wednesday morning.

According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, the students, ages 18 and 17 years old, starting fighting on the school’s football field around 10 a.m.

17-year-old, was stabbed,” said Chief Deputy David Boren.

The teen was able to run to the parking lot, where students and faculty found him.

“Either students or faculty called 911,” Boren said.

Authorities placed both the high school and nearby Duchesne Elementary School on lockdown until they felt the area was secure enough to allow students to leave.

The 18-year-old was arrested and taken in for questioning. Boren said he was being cooperative with investigators, but would not release further details about him.

Investigators were waiting to question both teens before addressing what prompted he fight.

“It’s still an ongoing investigation, and we are still trying to piece together what happened,” Boren said.

The 17-year-old was taken by medical helicopter to a Salt Lake City hospital. At last report, investigators said he was in critical condition.
