MILLCREEK, Utah --Two suspects are behind bars after an armed robbery in Millcreek Tuesday evening.

It began at Lugano's Restaurant, located at 3364 E. 2300 East, and ended in a neighborhood nearby.

Unified Police say two Polynesian men entered the restaurant, armed with a handgun. They allegedly demanded money from a hostess and took off with a till full of cash.

Officials say an officer happened to be in the area when he got the call about the armed robbery and spotted the getaway vehicle. The suspects ditched the car and fled on foot into a neighborhood nearby at 3320 S. 2100 East.

One of the suspects surrendered to police, but the other suspect broke into the garage of a home to hide out. He was eventually taken into custody.

"This very well could have been a much more drastic situation here. They did force entry into an innocent person's home. Fortunately no one was home when this took place. We were able to get him out but both of the individuals were ultimately armed throughout this situation. One had a handgun. The other pulled a shotgun as the employees were chasing them out to their car," said Lt. Justin Hoyal with Unified Police Department.

The incident began and ended with arrests in less than two hours.

Police credit good detective work. No one was injured.

The suspects’ names have not been released at this time, but law enforcement says they will be facing a slew of charges including aggravated robbery, burglary and fleeing from police.
